Training the Three-day Event Horse and Rider
Published in Hardcover by The Derrydale Press (31 October, 2000)
Author: James C. Wofford
Average review score:

Love it, love it, love it!
I am just a beginner, but this book inspired me to try hard to event. I loved the gymnastics in the back!

Great Concepts and lots of details
I was SO happy to finally read a book involving cross country with so much emphasis on good basics and snaffle bits. I am so sick of hearing trainers advocating bigger bits to control your horse. Mr. Wofford advocates better TRAINING to control your horse - what a concept. This book covers quite a range of topics; from choosing an event horse, dressage, how the horse sees jumps vs. how we see jumps, cross country, jumping, conditioning, cross country position and more. I think this is a great book!

Clinics and the Book
In 1984 I began riding in Jimmy's clinics and have accumulated numerous hours riding, watching and listening. During this time I took copious notes on his comments; measurements of his gymnastics; watched other riders and listened to Jimmy's critiques. "Training-the-Three-Day Event Horse" IS Jimmy Wofford. His concise, straitforward teaching comes through in his book just as though you are there listening to him. If I could only have one book, it would be this one. I recommend it to my students, I give it as gifts and I wouldn't leave home without it.

Year-Long Day
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (July, 1977)
Authors: A.E. and Ivar Ruud Maxwell and Ivar Ruud
Average review score:

I wish I still had it.
I read Year-LongDay over twelve year ago.As a matter of fact I read it twice. In the interim I've read hundreds of books and forgotten the authors and titles.I still remember the Year-LongDay and the effect it had on me.The memory of the two hunters meeting after almost a year of no human contact and happy when the day was over so they could return to their solitude. The best yarn I've ever read.A book that can be read,re-read and read again and still be enjoyed.

The best book I ever read
Ever since I got this book, I have been reading and rereading it about once every other month. To show you how good it is, my dad, before he gave it to me, gave it to a friend, who gave it to another friend, etc., etc. He didn't get it back until six years later when he had to hunt it down. This is a book anyone would love.

A wonderful book about the draw of the Arctic
I spent a year in the Arctic while in the service and even though that is 30 years in the past I keep reading books like this about people who have the courage and strength to pit themselves against the forces of nature, sometimes winning other times losing, but always on their terms. My overwhelming feeling about the book is admiration for a man who has lived his life to the fullest.

The 20-Day Rejuvenation Diet Program: With the Revolutionary Phytonutrient Diet
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (November, 1996)
Authors: Jeffrey S., Phd Bland, Sara H. Benum, and Jeffreys. Bland
Average review score:

when there is no doctor, this book is.
many people came to my orthomolecular-clinic just to rejuvenate because they feel weak and do have some mild allergy symptoms. this book is going to show you the reader a special diet that specificaly was chosen with a very selective nutritious-hypoallergenic foods that as it sounds,-was made to give you a boost/rejuvenation,while trying not to give you allergic foods that could offend your immune system. the strategy is explained in details, and a very important section on immune system mechanism in the liver is also explained in a very interesting/yet simple to understand, and a nutritional supplements along with it.the book is very unique at this topic and is understandable to anyone. i recommanded as a proffesional and as a book reader. dont mis this book, buy it today.

This book helped me with my health
I really liked this book. I read a lot of health books and this was one of the best in giving me thing to do to improve my health that really worked.

Science Based nutrition program for antiaging
There are many "antiaging" books around but this book I found to be one of the best. It is a good balance of recent science into what accelerates our aging process and what to do about it in a practical program of personalized nutrition. The book is very technical at times, but I found it fascinating to see how personalized diet and nutrient intervention can work at the physiological level to help improve health.

Sing Through the Day: Eighty Songs for Children
Published in Audio Cassette by Plough Publishing House (May, 1999)
Author: Marlys Swinger
Average review score:

Good book with unique songs and beautiful illustrations
This is an excellent book for someone looking for unique children's songs from a variety of ethnic origins. I did not know any song in this collection, although I am familiar with several of the poems from which some of them originate.

The CD is very helpful to hear the songs played and sung, although the style of the choir is not my favorite and I find the recordings a bit monotonous as a whole. The songs themselves are very different in style and origin, and I wish the recordings were equally varied.

For someone looking for a collection of more popular children's songs that your kids might already by singing I would recommend Singing Bee, but if you want variety and uniqueness, this is the book for you.

The illustrations are beautiful, and my daughter loves to flip through the book and make up her own songs based on the images!

A Wonderful Collection of Waldorf Songs!
Sing Through the Day is a family favorite. When I was a parent toddler leader, these songs were the basis of our group. A wonderful collection of truly Waldorf-Inspired songs, this is a great way to learn the melodies to these lovely tunes. In this newly revised edition, eighty songs from around the world are brought together in a stunning musical celebration of childhood. It's all here, from waking up in the morning, playing with puppies or on the swing, watching clouds and picking flowers, to celebrating birthdays, hearing fairytales at bedtime and dreaming of magic ponies. Excellent for Homeschooling families looking for songs! As for the lyrics, this is a veritable gold mine, with classic poems from Christina, Rossetti, Robert Loius Stevenson, Hans Christian Anderson, Rose Fyleman, Margaret Wise Brown, William Blake and many others... I highly recommend this lovely book and compact disc. ...

My son LOVES this book!
My 3-year-old son absolutely adores this book and CD. He loves looking at the beautiful color pictures and listening to me sing the songs. He has even picked up the words to many of the songs, and likes to sing along. The songs are unusual -- I had not heard most of them -- and beautiful, with lovely messages about nature and joyful living. A good change from the common nursery rhymes all children learn. There are also some games (actions) suggested for some songs. I took the book to my son's preschool and we sang songs and did the motions -- the kids loved it. I have bought four copies of this book to give away to friends and relatives.

Three Days in Sedona: A Personal Harmonic Convergence
Published in Paperback by Stardust Pub (01 May, 1990)
Author: Alan Klevit
Average review score:

Where's the Movie?
A friend of mine who met Mr. Klevit a few years ago, gave me the book for my 18th birthday last week. I have already read it and loaned it to a friend, with several others waiting. It's kind of a science fiction book with messages for improving your life. It doesn't preach to me, and I like that, which some books and shows do. It lays it out there. Be anybody you want to be. Respect. Self-love. Where you fit in the scheme of things--the Big Picture. This book is full of hope, while it is exciting. I plan to get some books on meditation and zen, thanks to the author. Not only can this book get you thinking about your life, and what you can do to improve it, it is a fun read. The divisions--chapters are clever, too, "In the Grotto," which is as exciting as Stephen King's "Pet Cemetary", "E=MC2," and other names to get you curious. I hope they make this book into a movie. It would be a hit.

I'm A Believer!
Sometimes a "quest Book" is boring or tired. Sometimes, it's credility is suspect. Not this book on either count. I bought Three Days in Sedona based on some reviews I read. Although they were all positive, the readers were not sure if they believed all of the author's "wierd" experiences. Well, I have seen a spaceship (in Idaho--twice). And I have "travelled in space." And I don't think these things are wierd. I admire the way Klevit describes his unusual experiences with child-like wonder but with no excuses or apologies. And he is right on. Best of all, his observations about his life helped me examine mine. I think I am a better person for it. Thank you, sir.

This book changed my life
By the time I finished the introduction, I already had enough ideas to change my life. That was the author's intention, I guess, as he pointed out, very cleverly, that once you believe that just about anything is possible--like science fiction becoming reality--then it applies to your own life, too. I like his style. It is straightforward, very conversational, like he is sitting there talking to you. Even though some of things he claims he did seem pretty far out there, like space travel, aliens and the like, his sincerity makes it hard to not believe him. And whether you do or not doesn't matter, because he uses his experiences as tools. Creative visualization, open mindedness, seeing the big picture, loving yourself, and a lot of things authors are writing about now (14 years later), give this book a lot of credibility. Klevit was ahead of his time. And he doesn't just talk about stuff. He gives suggestions I have been able to implement and improve my attitude and my life. Where's the sequel, sir?

Tortured for His Faith: An Epic of Christian Courage and Heroism in Our Day
Published in Paperback by Zondervan (June, 1980)
Author: Haralan Popoff
Average review score:

Harrowing yet dramatic story of faith in Christ!
I read this book and couldn't put it down, nor could I get the images out of my head. Some of the details are horrific and the atrocities that this man suffered for his faith in Christ are terrifying. What is more amazing is how he found the courage to endure when most mortals would have given up altogether. I have always been encouraged and inspired when reading books like this, a testimony to the power of God in a life given over in humble obedience to Him. A beautiful, triumphant little book!

If you need your faith renewed, this is the book to read
I read this book many years ago, and in the midst of moving I lost it and have been trying to find another copy for a long time. What I remember most is what Mr. Popoff went through in his daily life without a Bible, and what we take for granted everyday with Bibles in our homes and not being read. Only but through the Grace of God and Mr. Popoff's strong Faith could he have survived the torment he had to endure.
I promise your life will be richly blessed after reading this book. . You will be counting your blessings everyday.

Extremely Positive Despite Horrifying Circumstances
This book exemplifies the requisition for Christians to submit completely and without reservation to Jesus Christ. Popov was blessed with physical manifestations of Jesus during his darkest hour. His experiences after 13 consecutive years of torture, fear and starvation enabled him to proclaim this period of his life as an experience he would not trade, and without hesitation, to declare it was all worth it. To walk out of the Bulgarian Communist prison system after 13 years, recounting the countless men who came to Christ and went on to be with the Lord, Popov has said it was indeed worth every moment of suffering he was priviledged to endure. This is truly a special man and a wonderful book to read again and again.

Wedding Workout: Look and Feel Fabulous on Your Special Day
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (13 December, 2001)
Authors: Tracy Effinger and Suzanne Rowen
Average review score:

What a great idea!
Being a woman and also a bride, I am naturally concerned with how my body looks. This book is aimed toward brides but is applicable to all women. The exercises are specific and realistic. At first I was a bit confused, but after reading through certain sections again, I began to get focused on what Effinger was saying. The basic points of feeling great and looking great are flexibility, cardio, toning, and eating right. Effinger makes it easy to understand and also easy to do, even with a busy schedule. I know that I will continue to use these exercises even after my big day.

I Love This Workout
A friend gave me The Wedding Workout soon after I got engaged. I've been doing the workout and following the nutrition advice for 5 months now and I've lost weight and inches. I'm so excited that I'll look great at my wedding. Even though I'm getting married next month, I plan on continuing this workout long after my big day. Whether you're getting married or not, this is a great workout book.

The Perfect Engagement Companion
Where was The Wedding Workout when I was engaged? Suzanne Rowen and Tracy Effinger have written the perfect book to give to any bride-to-be. While the excercise guidance is of course wonderful, this book is so much more than a workout manual. It gives brides the confidence they'll need to handle the many decisions they'll have to tackle during this busy and stressful time. The subjects of dress selection, honeymoon and nutrition are handled with wit, charm and sparkle. The book is a pleasure to read and the advice is useful long after the special day has come and gone.

Wrong Feet First : A Gift of Stories for Your Inside-Out Kind of Day
Published in Hardcover by Lovegifts Publishing (December, 2000)
Authors: Arta D. Banks and Dixie Van de Flier Davis
Average review score:

A Soul Touching Read
The stories in this book can bring tears to your eyes, a smile to your lips, and also allow you time for introspection and the ability to walk down your own "memory lane". Ms. Banks spins a delightful series of memories and tales, and the book is a wonderful gift to share with friends and family members.

A story straight to the heart...
It was Thanksgiving 2001 when my Aunt came for a visit and gave a copy of Arta's book to my mother, sister, and me. "Read the story on page 45" she said, and to our surprise there was a description of a man we all loved and miss very much. "Mr. Bob" was my uncle. The husband to my aunt, brother to my mother, and always my sisters and my favorite uncle. I will always be grateful for Arta's story and hope someday to say thank you in person. Her stories tug at your heart strings and bring a smile to your lips. What a remarkable woman!

An inspiring collection of true stories
In Wrong Feet First: A Gift Of Stories For Your Inside-Out Kind Of Days, Arta Banks presents a heartwarming, entertaining, and occasionally inspiring collection of true stories illustrating and celebrating life in good times and tough times. A single mom with six children (five of whom are adopted), Arta has also taken in kids born with drug addiction, fleeing abusive homes, and experienced having her youngest daughter diagnosed with HIV when just two and a half months old. Drawn from Arta's personal experiences and journal recordings, Wrong Feet First is candid, emotionally moving, and a testament to the resilience and endurance of the human spirit -- as well as a celebration of the joys that balance sorrows, the power of hope, and the beauty life has to offer in even the most humble of circumstances.

20th Century Day by Day
Published in Hardcover by DK Publishing (October, 2000)
Authors: Clifton Daniel and Arthur Meier, Jr. Schlesinger
Average review score:

Five-star History
I was looking for a book that summarized World history during the 20th century and this is the one I chose to buy. I was more than happy with my copy. It is easy to look up specific events, and great for general browsing. I only had two complaints - one, that there was MORE detail in it (although that would have been very hard for a single volume!), and two, it didn't come with the CD that was made to go with it.

Buy this book!!!
What can I say? The book is an incredible collection of every notable historical event in the last 100 years.

The BEST part, to me, is the "chain reference" feature. When you get to the bottom of an article (about, say, the completion of the Hindenburg), there is a small date in italics at the end which points you to the next article concerning the Hindenburg. This is OUTSTANDING for following a chain of events through history.

GREAT reading for knowledge or leisure!

Bloody Marvelous!
Cor, blimey! You won't be disappointed with this one. So many pages of so many stories, taken from the headlines as they were that day. It's almost like being there, be it 15, or 50 years ago. If you want to see how the print media saw the headlines as they were written then, this is the book for you.
